U.S. History

U.S. History

Designed for teachers with three years of experience teaching AP U.S. History or less, this course will emphasize pacing the course, assessments, developing student skills and the mechanics of the AP exam. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring an electronic device, such as a laptop or tablet.

Topics will include the following:

  • Writing and document-analysis skills students for success.
  • Classroom resources, including online and multimedia resources, to help avoid the temptation to lecture in every class.
  •  Enriching content understanding beyond textbook materials.
  • Developing your own lessons and confronting challenges in AP U.S. history content.

Instructor: Matt Cone

Matt Cone teaches AP United States History and American Studies at Plano Senior High School in Plano, Texas, where he has also taught AP U.S. Government and Politics. He has been a reader and table leader for the AP U.S. History exam readings and has served as a College Board consultant since 2002. He has presented at numerous summer institutes and AP national conferences.
